Chapter 11, Page 15 Permit, sort of

Not quite a driving permit.

It's hard to write the way Mary (and by extension, I) really talk. Wall o' Text doesn't even begin to describe it.

That same difficulty may also explain why I haven't put Dad in the comic much.

Too true: Our delivery styles are a trifle non-standard.

An interesting exercise: set up a recorder, and tape us, talking. The transcript might be enlightening.

Do I really need to mention that that's the way I talk, too? :P

@Dad: That would be kinda fun. And with a tape of my voice maybe I could find someone who can really identify this weird accent.

@Dan: It's certainly the way you type. lol

I have zero skill slots in "concise verbal discussion." I can often find ways to be more concise when writing (though even then it's difficult) but when I start rambling... damn. I can take five minutes saying something that other people could say in five seconds. ^^;;

Scary. My oldest boy just got that piece of paper himself.

Here, lass. It's an accent quiz. ^^ http://www.gotoquiz.com/what_american_accent_do_you_have

@Robert: Tell me about it! Of course, my own rambling and the rambling of my Dad has made me rather good at piecing out the gist of what other people say, but it's still frustrating.

And I'll look at the quiz, though it assumes the accent is American.

@Zach: Be afraid! Be very afraid!
