There's a reason I don't like eating out. Okay, several reasons, but one of them is that I don't like doing this to whoever has to take my order. Some people do special orders out of preference. As a kid, I ordered my hamburgers plain out of preference. Now, I make special orders because of allergies. There's some preference, too, since I probably could eat the cheese, but I really don't want to.

Um...Is it really that confusing when we say "Substitute this for this, I don't want this or this but I'd like to add this, and please give me this on the side"? '^_^
And did he actually leave you alone on register your first day? Robert Heinlein said that the coldest depth of Hell was reserved for people who abandoned kittens, but it's pretty obvious that he never worked in the fast food industry...
@Dan: It is when you have to find the buttons for each of those.
I don't think it was my first day on the job (that was probably flipping burgers, literally) but he did give me a run down of the controls and then leave me to my own devices.
I feel bad now. Whenever I eat fast food I almost always ask for substitutions and special orders.
@Dan: If that makes you feel bad, I feel kinda bad about what I have planned for the next episode.
'^_^
I just realized something. This is the first time that we've seen Mary wearing a hat in a while...
@Dan: It is, isn't it? Wow.
@Brigid: Don't the buttons actually...say what they do? Like if you were looking for the soda button, wouldn't it acutally say "Soda"?
@Journo: You have to find it first. And it might be under a couple levels. When there are over two dozen half-inch-on-a-side buttons on the screen, that can be hard to do.
@Brigid: Ah. The buttons are tiny and there are over a zillion of them.
It must be one of those things where you memorise by touching the buttons so many times over and over.
My dad told me about this telephone operator he knew who could memorise every number because of so much time dialling the numbers.
@Journo: Yeah, pretty much.
