Chapter 14, Page 17 Language is strange

Language is strange.

'Gull' is Norwegian for yellow. No idea why carrots are called 'yellow root' in Norwegian. Or why oranges are called 'Chinese apples.' The Chinese part I kinda get, but apple? They're nothing like apples!

@Brigid: Oh, it's not just me. In Denmark, appelsin means "orange" as well. I noticed it when I read the labels on a carton of juice when I visited my friend in Denmark.

I'm not sure why they call it that either, but then again, it's probably for the same reason that potatoes are called "earth apples" in French XD

@Journo: At least 'earth apple' makes some sense since potatoes grow underground and there's a bit of a resemblance between them and apples. (Thin, edible skin with solid, white flesh.)

@Brigid:...I never thought about that. Hooray for perspective.

@Brigid: I guess for the average peasant farmer who has never seen an orange before, he would probably just call it an apple for lack of a better word XP

By the way, who is playing with the fruit and who is laughing her head off?

Brigid said...

@Journo: Good point.

The guy with the food is one of the councilors. Mary is the one showing no restraint in her laughter. ^_^

@Brigid: Kind of random, but I just thought...have you ever thought of creating a group on deviantART for MQC? That way, you can upload each arc into different folders and you could have a folder for fan art and things.

Just a thought.

@Journo: I hadn't thought of that. Hmm. Interesting. I wonder how you create a group.

@ Journo: once upon a time I suggested she try adapting it to a prose story. So far as I know, someone never got around to that. But maybe a fangroup on deviantART would be a better idea? :)

And hey, Merry Christmas, folks!

@Dan: Hey! I'm still working on getting these comics out on a semi-regular basis. Adding a prose story to the mix will take a while.

@ Brigid: Okay. Guess I'll let it slide this time. ;D

@Brigid: Well, I found this page here on deviantART:

http://makeagroup.deviantart.com/

You just fill out the form on the page. There are FAQs on the right hand page.

@Dan: Glad you think so ^_^

Journo-SEAL said...

@Brigid: Oh, and Merry Christmas as well. Best wishes to you and your family and friends ^_^

@Journo: Interesting.

And Merry Christmas to all!
