Chapter 12, Page 16 Not-so-small vocabulary

Little brother, big vocabulary.

He really said this. As a toddler. That's my brother! ^_^

Chapter 11, Page 14 It falls to her

Nothing brings a family together like a thunder storm.

Let's be fair, first of all. Dad could sleep through an air raid siren, a little thunder and a screaming baby aren't going to even register. Besides, Mom is the one with the nurturing instincts. Dad's job is to chase bats out of the bedroom.

More on that later.

Chapter 9, Page 5 Repetative Repetition

Perhaps the most maddening aspect of babies.

I cannot begin to tell you how often I've done something like this.

Chapter 7, Page 23 First Birthday

Happy birthday, little brother!

Peter is one year old! Man, a year goes by so fast. Good heavens, how long has Mary Quite Contrary been running? Mary was ten when I started and now she's 14! She's got a little brother now, she's been home schooled for nearly 3 years, and her littlest sister has started kindergarten.

What else will happen from now on? I sure hope I can keep this up for another 4 years. And longer!

Chapter 7, Page 22 Feeding

Peter is a fussy eater.

I should correct that. If the baby food is green I'm not to thrilled about it. But other than that I like baby food. I've also read the ingredients labels. Babies eat way better than older kids.

One last word: Sorry for the missing week of updates. Spring Break, hanging with my family, all that good stuff. I should be back on track now.

Chapter 7, Page 19 Puppy

Peter speaks.

I feel like an idiot not getting this up yesterday.

Oh well.

Conny has now been renamed, and respecied. That's what she gets for pretending to be a dog around a nearly-one-year-old.

Chapter 7, Page 15 Old maid at 14

A little older than old fashioned.

Dad's not exactly what one usually thinks of when someone says 'old fashioned.' And yet, he is. He's just a lot older fashioned than most. Think 200 BC, Northern Europe. Only without the warpaint and human sacrifice.

He also takes his duty to embarrass his children to within an inch of their lives very seriously.

I had a hard time coming up with the visuals for this strip. Mary freaking out all over the panels wouldn't leave much room for the words. So then I thought I'd draw something very sedate and domestic to counter balance the strange conversation going on in the next room. Which also gave me my punch line. Man, I love the creative process. (When it works.)

Chapter 7, Page 11 The things boys do.

Do all boys act this way?

Run into wall, fall on little diapered butt, giggle, run across room and repeat.

It seems to keep him entertained, but for heaven's sake, HOW?!

Chapter 7, Page 10 Call him Samson.

It's discipline.

He really did this. No, really. Fell right no his little diapered butt from the sudden shift in his center of gravity, but he did pull the gate out of the door.

Strong kid.

Chapter 7, Page 9 Walking

First walking, then climbing.

Babies. Lots of fun. With the way Mary reacts to trouble it's amazing she hasn't had a heart attack already. Oh dear.

Chapter 7, Page 7 Maternal instincts

Mary's maternal instincts activate.

There seems to be some sort of on switch in the center of the breast bone. The instant my little brother fell asleep and fell against that point for the first time I felt an incredible warmth and desire to hug him, squee loudly, and just protect him from everything. I call it the maternal instinct activator. Mine apparently never turned off. ^^;

Chapter 7, Page 4 Little situation

Could be a big problem.

Ever have one of those days? I think Mary feels like she's having one. She may be right. (Maybe if she wasn't such a klutz...)

Chapter 6, Page 31 Shell-shocked pirate.

Every pirate needs an origami hat.

One of Ruth's specialties comes to the fore. She seriously rocks at origami. Mary, on the other hand, is lucky to get a paper airplane to come out right.

Sigh.

As for Peter's thoughts on the current goings on, I think he's enjoying this about as much as a kitten in the hands of a mob of preschool girls on a sugar high.

Being the only boy is so not fair.

Chapter 6, Page 30 More Toys!

Far too much energy.

Now, now, Ruth. You aren't exactly innocent in all this, either.

Ah, the energy of youth. If I could only do all my homework and churn out these strips with time to spare. And pack everything for moving. The end of the month is coming.

New apartment! Actual kitchen! Yay!

More things to do! AAA!

Chapter 6, Page 28 With a kiss

Mom is a terrible tease.

Mom, I just want to let you know that you are a terrible, awful tease. I think it must run in the family. On both sides.

Oh, yes, my readers, Mary is disgusted at the thought of kissing. One might understand if it was the thought of possibly tasting the other person or getting their spit in her mouth, but that's not it. I mean, she has bitten people in the past. (No. Really.) Just kissing is mushy and vile.

Maybe she'll grow out of it. ... Eventually.

Chapter 5, Page 9 Where Milk Comes From

I'm not Mom!

I wonder if I'm pushing my rating limit with this one. But family-centered newspaper comics have done related gags so maybe I'm okay.

In any case, this really does happen and the parties involved a totally innocent. Little babies just get hungry. At least he's not screaming.

Chapter 4, Page 49 Magic ribbon

It was like a magic trick.

Some may notice that I haven't updated the mirror site for a while. That's partially because (drum roll please) I got a job!

Yes, I have gainful employment. That does mean I have a little less time to devote to the comic, but I will try my best to maintain the three-days-a-week schedule I've set for myself.

Coloring the title page for the new chapter may prove a little tricky, though. ^^;

Chapter 4, Page 48 Strange child.

She rolled.

So who'd want to be normal?

Though having Mary as the first born might be considered a little much for new parents to take. lol

Chapter 4, Page 46 What rating was this again?

Baby girls don't do that.

Taking care of a baby is a dirty job. Just as Mike Rowe (he did an episode at a daycare).

And for those of you who haven't changed a boy's diaper... yes, they really can do that.

I wonder what rating this series is going to get after this episode.
