So sorry for the lack of consistent updates! I wonder if I still have any readers. School has been intense this semester, so I've been focusing more on that. Of course, I have tried to relax, which is where my new video games come in. (Ike rules!) Also been trying to get the apartment in some semblance of order, which is starting to look less like an exercise in futility now.
Anyway, I finally get around to Mary asking to play 'The Game.' Yeah, I doubt Wizards of the Coast would bother suing me if I used the actual name, but we very rarely called it AD&D, anyway. It was 'The Game,' a highly mutated version of the commercially available system using rules from a couple different editions (at least) with some parts made up out of whole cloth.
Fun times.

Well, at least one reader! :D
I don't think I've ever played The Game according to the letter of the rules. Depending on the version, aren't we actually ENCOURAGED to get creative with the rules?
I'm looking forward to this part of Memory Lane. Not that I haven't been enjoying the rest, of course.
@Dan: Yeah, I think you are, but our approach tended to be a little more wholesale than Dad was used to. Of course, Dad was used to a bunch of college guys who just wanted to get to the hack and slash. :P
@Dad: Yep! It's going to be fun. hehehehe
Probably why my gaming sessions were sporadic at best. I always preferred the story to the hack and slash part (or at least got as MUCH enjoyment out of that part of the game). Last time I played I was disappointed to learn that we weren't going to role play our characters forming a party and buying their equipment (the GM just had us all start out like a bunch of Dark Ages college buddies shopping for weapons and equipment at a medieval Sears & Roebuck).
Which is part of the reason that it WAS the last time I played, I think.
You still have readers. I love your surrealistic looks back.

Mary needs a surrealistic pillow...
No. None of us are reading anymore. Nobody here but just us chickens.
:)
@Jerry: Thanks! I wonder what a surrealistic pillow would look like...
@Zach: :P
Is she leaning back on a rocking chair?
Journo: Not quite. It's one of those swiveling office chair like things that also leans back. Sometimes a little too far. (Most of ours were old and a tended toward coming loose.)
Oh, one of those things. I get it now. I once was sitting on one, and my classmate leaned on the back so much, I thought I was going to fall backwards.
Then my teacher smacked me for making a fuss...8th grade science was fun...
@Journo: Oy ve. Really makes you wonder why some people go into teaching. Though I guess years of dealing with unruly, uncooperative kids for a pathetic paycheck for years would make some people a bit testy.
