Your latter option doesn't allow for the quite possible exception of rape, or when the mothers life is in danger (and at times both).
But yes, I tend to agree with you that an abortion that destroys even the hope for life is morally wrong.
Well, in the case of rape I don't see why abortion should be considered since it isn't the child's fault and if the woman doesn't want the kid than adoption is an option.
As for life of the mother, the only thing I can think of is ectopic pregnancy. Everything else is a case of save both lives if at all possible.
What is ectopic pregnancy?
@Journo: It's when the fetus attaches to a place outside the womb. Usually the fallopian tubes, but other places are possible, too.
