Chapter 13, Page 6 Pre-performance problems

Mary doesn't like make-up. Understatement!

More delays. Really should do something about that. Maybe if I actually budgeted my time. Though considering what's happened in the past when I tried to maintain a daily schedule... *sigh*

Well, I rather hope this is an exaggeration of actual events. I don't think I ever caused this big a scene before a performance. Though I was rather vocal about my dislike for make-up. It feels... *wrong.* I don't like having stuff stuck to my face.

@Brigid: Silly Mary XD

Although, I do admit that stage make up is a real pain in the butt, especially when you have to remove the mascara! XD

*Speaking from experience: I was in two musical productions in Middle and High School, wore make up for the performance night.

@Journo: And it's so thick and feels so weird! Ugh. The upside is that your face had probably never been cleaner once you finished scrubbing!

But there's got to be a better way to get it off than sandpapering your face. Stage makeup has to be smeared on so heavily so that it will show up at all out in the audience...

@Dan: Probably. And to think people pay gobs of money to get exfoliated...

It's been days already...am I gonna be the only one to catch the Lord of the Rings reference in panel two? Does no one read anymore (and even if they don't it was in the movies, too...)?

Brigid said...

@Dan: I'm hoping that it was just such an obvious reference that no one felt the need to point it out. I hope.

How sad does that make me? I felt the need to point it out, after all... :P

Brigid said...

@Dan: Not sad, just... I'm at a bit of a loss...

...I've decided that I'm gonna take that as your saying "I really don't have a clever response to that, so..." rather than "You know, I'm trying not to be insulting here, but I really didn't think that anyone in here would be geek enough to get that reference." ^_^'

But then, since I've known you for long enough to realize that you don't exactly consider the word geek as being—by default—derogatory, I suppose I won't automatically assume the worst. XD

@Dan: Yeah, being a geek is great. And, honestly, I don't think you have to be a geek to get that reference. It showed up in Fosters Home For Imaginary Friends, for crying out loud.

Foster's Home may not be the best defense for it's being a non-geek reference. I for one liked the show (where's the complete series on DVD?) but there seem to be a lot of people who didn't...and it might not say much for my lack of geekocity. Oh well. What do the anti-Fosterites know? ;)

As for wearing pajamas in public being embarassing, well...it seems to actually be sort of trendy out here among certain groups, mostly teenage girls (you have to wonder, did they just grab the first thing that wasn't in the laundry? Or did they just come from an anime convention...one stressing pajamas over cosplay...and which was taking place in a rural area of Colorado...in the middle of winter...?).

@Dan: I wonder how deep you can dig that hole? ^_^ No idea why teens would wear pjs in public. Or why anyone would hate Foster's. I can understand not liking it, everyone has different tastes, but hating?

@Brigid: Considering how many of my classmates back in Middle School wore PJ bottoms to school, I think wearing PJs in public is not that embarrassing.

Unless your PJs are your underwear. Then...it would be more like those bad dreams that people get where they show up to school without their pants. XD

@Dan: That reference was from Lord of the Rings?? I thought it was some kind of vampire movie. Got quite a long way to go in terms of finishing the trilogy :p

@Journo: Yeah... And I wore a nightgown for most of my childhood and teen years. Not something I'd wear in public outside a stage production.
